Early discussion on the House Floor - 2015

If you have watched the opening ceremonies for the House of Representatives you probably have noticed that the audio is turned OFF during the Pledge of Allegiance.  Why is this?  Asking the Speaker of the House that question would be an excellent phone call to make 503-986-1200.

Statement From House Republican Leader Mike McLane On Revenue Forecast

Salem, OR -  House Republican Leader Mike McLane (R-Powell Butte) issued the following statement regarding today's revenue forecast:

"Today's revenue forecast is welcome news and an optimistic sign that Oregon's economy is continuing to grow. After many years of economic hardship and sacrifice following the Great Recession, hard-working Oregonians will receive much-needed tax relief through this $478 million individual income tax kicker.

"Despite an early $1.75 billion in additional revenue available for this budget, legislative Democrats have somehow managed to underfund our schools while also jeopardizing our roads, bridges and public safety. The Legislature doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a leadership and priorities problem. The recent calls from legislative Democrats to overturn or suspend the voter-approved kicker law are predictable and disappointing. Oregon taxpayers know how to spend their money better than we do."

SB 941 and other Anti-Gun Bills

Just a brief follow up on the Extended Background Check Bill - SB941.  The legislation passed the House 32-28 with three Democrats voting against it.  The Governor signed the bill.  There is a "promise" of some other bills to follow that will make some changes to the new law - but I am not holding my breath!

Moving on to the next horror story - check out SB 525.

This type of proposed legislation is truly beyond my comprehension - I do not understand how the thought process works for individuals who would go this far.  Can you imagine having your personal property confiscated when you have not been convicted of any crime?

It is my understanding that SB525 is presently being held on Senate President Courtney's desk for further review - we can only pray that it finds a permanent residence on that desk.

At present time in my Committees we are having some Informational Hearings on topics of discussion and are hearing a few Senate Bills.  Kind of a lull before the storm, I believe - but I will keep you posted.

You can go here:  Live Feed of House Session And watch the video of the Floor Session if you wish.  Floor Sessions begin about 10:30 or 11:00 every weekday during session.

Elections matter!!

Just observing - do you watch the Floor Sessions?
